The crown jewel of the Finnish cinema

Chosen as Finland’s nominee for the Academy Award, Euthanizer is exactly the type of film you would want to represent Finland. It is rough, growling, funny, quirky, morose, stubborn and ruthless. It is crystal clear that director Teemu Nikki has not resorted to compromises to please a greater audience. Although Euthanizer is thoroughly Finnish, its audience is the whole world.

Euthanizer tells the story of Veijo, portrayed magnificently by Matti Onnismaa. Veijo is a car mechanic whose side job is to euthanize animals. His morals are unwavering until a dog brought to be euthanized melts Veijo’s frozen heart. Unfortunately, the happiness doesn’t last long and Veijo sets out for a chilling rampage of revenge.

The fantastic soundtrack is created by Timo Kaukolampi and Tuomo Puranen of the electronic rock band K-X-P.
