Todd Phillips:

Hated: G.G.Allin and the Murder Junkies (USA, 1992)

Production: A Skinny Nervous Guy
60 min - DVD. English.

Not for persons under 18 years of age.

Of all the notorious characters in the history of punk rock, it was unquestionably G. G. Allin who was the wildest. He dedicated his career and his short life to the unselfish task of bringing danger back to rock'n'roll. His way of carrying out this task, however, was far from noble. The gigs of his band Murder Junkies usually lasted no longer than ten minutes, ending in a full-scale mayhem, with the vocalist rolling naked on the floor in his own faeces and physically assaulting the members of the audience.

Allin was arrested more than fifty times in his life, and even during the making of this documentary he was on a parole. When the film was in post production, Allin was found dead in his apartment in New York. The cause for death was drug overdose; thus, Allin never quite managed to deliver his promise to take his own life onstage.

Director Todd Phillips is now best known for such box-office boomers as Road Trip and Starsky and Hutch, but in the early days of his career he was hailed as the next big thing in the trash/underground film scene. Hated is, by far, the most memorable of Phillip's works. If you are feeling even a bit under weather, steer clear of this showing.
