Coming Back For More (Netherlands, 2010)

Sly Stone, with his band The Family Stone, was one of the most influential musical innovators of the previous century. The band really was quite a sight at the time. There were men and women, both black and white, in the band, creating a chemical infused mixture of soul, rock, funk, R&B and psychedelia. Their albums, such as Dance to the Music, Life, Stand!, There’s a Riot Going on and Fresh are, in all their acid madness, absolute classics of their time.

Sly Stone played at Woodstock as did Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Whereas Jimi and Janis died young and became legends, Sly managed to get himself clean – but by the 1980s he had completely disappeared from the spotlight.

For years, Stone kept to himself. Even Prince could not get through to his idol. In 2002, Willem Alkema, a Dutch director, embarked upon a mission that seemed impossible – to find Sly Stone and interview him. Coming Back For More tells the story of the hunt until the point of Sly finally giving Alkema the first interview in over 20 years. Without giving everything away, we can tell you that the funk legend has developed into… quite a character.

Coming Back For More is a story about a true eccentric – the original funk nutcase far beyond this reality.
