Marley, by the award-winning director Kevin McDonald, is a documentary about the biggest name in reggae, Bob Marley. It is the first film approved by his estate, and Marley’s family, friends, colleagues and lovers have all been involved in the making of this all-encompassing documentary. McDonald himself has managed to find previously unreleased archival material that brings new light into Marley’s life.

Bob Marley’s influence on music cannot be overestimated. The first international reggae star spread the message of Jamaican music and culture all over the world, creating a loud and lasting following that reaches even the most northern parts of Finland. Of course, Marley didn’t create reggae all by himself, but he was and is without a doubt the best known reggae ambassador, whose songs have become iconic all around the world. He was also a dedicated Rastafarian whose ideals were forever in conflict with the demands of the music industry.

Marley tells the artist’s story from the early Jamaican years to his tragic death. According to critics, this is the definite exploration of the man and the myth that is Bob Marley.
