In Los Angeles, at the Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood one can find a mile-and-a-half stretch called the Sunset Strip. Hollywood stars gathered up here in the 1920s and ever since film stars and musicians have made themselves home under the fluorescent billboards and amongst the brothels, night clubs, casinos and bars. Again and again, a new generation creates their own Sunset Strip.
This documentary, directed by Hans Fjellestad, looks into the 100 years of history of the Sunset Strip. The list of stars recalling their memories is extensive: Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Ozzy Osbourne, Courtney Love, Sharon Stone, Alice Cooper, Hugh Hefner, Slash, Paris Hilton, Tommy Lee ja Lemmy Kilmister, you name it!
Sunset Strip is a great example of how changes in popular culture can leave traces in places and buildings. This film is full of fine music, and we get to see glimpses of countless gigs and performances. Fjellestad fits together animation and rarities from archives in order to take the audience to a place of wonder, colourful lights, fun and gloom, to a little corner of the world called the Sunset Strip.
