Death Metal Angola (USA, Angola, 2012)
90 min. - Portuguese - English subtitles

Angola, a former colony of Portugal, has been suffering through a civil war for a long time. Sonia Ferreira and Wilker Flores run an orphanage in Huambo, the second biggest city in Angola. The orphanage, called Okotiuka, houses 55 children who have all lost their parents. Wilker Flores plays death metal at the orphanage to heal himself of the scars left by the war.
Jeremy Xido's documentary follows Flores and Ferreira's dream to organise Angola's first rock festival and to offer a place for Angola's heavy metal lovers to come together and play. The city torn by war offers a brutally beautiful setting for music that purges the soul of darkness.
Death Metal Angola has been screened at multiple film festivals and now arrives at Rokumentti.
