Alongside Rokumentti festival, the horror movie event Cinemare also has its tenth birthday this autumn. To celebrate, the festivals join their forces in a horror movie concert.

The Fall of the House Usher is based on the story of Edgar Allan Poe. It is set in the foreboding castle of one Roderick Usher, who is painting a portrait of his seriously ill wife. His mind is deteriorating and he is sinking deeper into gloom. Poe is known as one of the forefathers of horror fiction. His story is both strange and unnerving and works best in the nightmarish setting offered by the silent film.

The moving pictures are accompanied by the music of Lau Nau and her backing band Likaiset kynttilät, whose varied and atmospheric avant garde folk has gained a cult following in the United States among other places. Lau Nau and the Dirty Candles will perform a newly composed live score. The band is Laura Naukkarinen, Niko Karlsson, Antti Tolvi and Jaakko Tolvi. What would work better on a November afternoon than a voyage into the twilight between real and unreal.

The version shown has been restored by La Cinémathèque française.
