Cultural revolution, army fetishes and the steamy West Berlin – the melting pot of cheap hedonists, communists and insane artists that gave us the European prototype of pop culture. In the midst of all this was Mark Reeder: a typical whippersnapper from Manchester whose intense craving for better music once brought him to that urban concrete funfair.
It could be said that Reeder hit the mother lode on his mission. After moving to Berlin, Reeder got to know Nick Cave, Westbam, New Order and Die Ärtzte, among other people, and has since gone on to forge a colourful career as a manager, musician, producer and even a founder of his own record company.
The nocturnal pulse of West Berlin is palpable and breathtaking. When watching the film it’s hard to believe that B-Movie really is a documentary. The hilarious chain of events, which almost seem like they are scripted, the unexpected encounters and obscene characters make you wish that you could've been there yourself.
