The last punk band in Finland says goodbye
“Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, what's your motto?” “We are wankers!” Formed in 2009, the punk band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät - or PKN for short - became a household name in Finland through the 2012 documentary The Punk Syndrome. Europe and the rest of the world followed in 2015 when Pertti Kurikka, Kari Aalto, Sami Helle and Toni Välitalo represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The follow-up documentary Punk Voyage drops the audience in the middle of the band's most hectic weeks. We get to witness fights, love triangles, friendship, love, excrement humour and simply astonishing situations in the midst of media frenzy. Additional tensions build up as Kurikka announces his plans to retire when he turns 60 - which equals the end for the band as well.
The audience gets to laugh and cry when the band plays its way to people's hearts. The wonderfully edited and directed Punk Voyage is also a Music film with a capital M: it is rare to see such an exquisite union between sound and image on screen. Thank you for everything, PKN!
Pertti Kurikka's somber alter ego Kalevi Helvetti will open the Rokumentti screening of Punk Voyage. Drawing inspiration from the Devil and Satan, the vampire gentleman recounts his creepy horror stories welcoming every member of the audience - including you - straight to HELL!
