Riotous triumph in the name of Irish freedom
Welcome to the streets of Belfast, where hip-hop and political resistance collide! When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise & Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in Irish language, Kneecap quickly becomes the unlikely figurehead of a civil rights movement to save their native language and culture.
In Kneecap, the real-life members of the group play themselves, bringing anarchic energy and youthful intensity to the screen. The trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound – whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. This film is a bold and exhilarating depiction of cultural and political freedom that doesn’t play by the rules, a vibrant and triumphant tale that merges personal identity with the powerful beats of hip-hop rebellion.
