The Tough Ones

Rokumentti week kicks off in full force on Monday with a screening from the KAVI series featuring a wild Finnish classic from the turn of the millennium. Häjyt (‘The Tough Ones’) brings the myth of the 19th-century knife-fighters Antti Isotalo and Antti Rannanjärvi from Southern Ostrobothnia into the modern day. Jussi Murikka (Samuli Edelmann) and Antti Karhu (Juha Veijonen) return to their hometown after serving prison sentences. The money from their bank robbery is missing, and to complicate things further, their old partner Heikki (Teemu Lehtilä) has switched sides and become a cop. Though efforts are made to get the duo on the straight and narrow, they’re still drawn to their grandfather’s motto: “Honest work has never paid off – and never will.”

Häjyt is a fast-paced, touching story that walks the fine line between friendship and defying societal norms.
