Listen up, mansplainers!
When phenomenal PMMP - formed by extraordinary musicians Paula Vesala and Mira Luoti broke into the collective Finnish consciousness, the music scene was dominated by a stale and deeply misogynistic atmosphere. Women artists were primarily viewed through the lens of their gender – dismissed, groped, and publicly humiliated in and by the media. The PMMP documentary takes us on a journey not only through the band's comeback year, but also through girlhood, womanhood, and motherhood in the early 2000s.
Beneath their energetic and tough exterior, we get a glimpse into the vulnerable sides of Paula and Mira – the raw emotion and sensitivity that fuel their lyrics, music, and performances. This documentary invites you to grab your own hand – and maybe a friend’s too, with consent of course – and remind yourself: no, equality has not gone too far.
PMMP keikalla: Ei enää ikinä -documentary crackles through skin, muscle, and bone – a fierce documentation of how love for music and deep friendship can shatter patriarchal structures, make space for new voices, and begin to heal past wounds. Laughter, solidarity, and resistance break us free from outdated systems. The documentary, released on Yle Areena and sparking wide-ranging public debate, is an experience that must be seen on the big screen.
And yes, sing-a-long is almost a must.
