Through the roof, underground!
Touted as the greatest live band in the world, Gogol Bordello has always been more than just a rock group. Blending Romani music, punk, and immigrant stories into a wild gypsy punk explosion, they turn every stage into a battleground of chaos and carnival – equal parts ecstatic party and fierce political statement. (If you doubt it, just ask Ilosaarirock 2018, where sweat and red wine poured in equal measure.)
At the heart of the film is Ukrainian-born frontman Eugene Hütz, whose journey runs from the gray repression of Soviet Ukraine to the underground clubs of New York, where Gogol Bordello first roared into being. With Russia’s full-scale invasion, Hütz finds himself on the way back to his homeland – fighting the war the only way he knows how: through music.
Scream of My Blood – a Grammy- and Golden Globe–nominated documentary is a ragged collage of archive mayhem, tour stages, and personal history, woven through with Ukrainian cultural fire. A cry of blood, sweat, and gasoline – a call to rebellion, to celebration, and to the magic of music that makes people at refugee centers and club maniacs sing as one.
