The tale of the true and blue tunes

Founded in 1939, Blue Note is the most famous jazz record label in the world. For musicians it has been a place for total creative freedom, and artists were often encouraged to search their limits - and go beyond. Besides the music, Blue Note attracted audiences with stunning record sleeves, which paved the way to the modern jazz aesthetics. Legends such as Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Art Blakey and Miles Davis all recorded for Blue Note. This documentary, however, does not concentrate only on the history of Blue Note, but shows how the label keeps going strong through artists like Herbie Hancock and Norah Jones.

Perceptive director Sophie Huber does what the title of the film promises: this is not just another ordinary background story about a record label. The film delves deeper and channels the basic elements of jazz, which have always been crucial to Blue Note: freedom of expression, equality, and the importance of communication. Take a seat, relax, and let yourself fall into the sweetest notes of the best jazz in the world.
