1234
Giles Borg:
1234 (UK, 2008)
76 min. - English
1234 tells about a band. But not about a band on tour or getting a record deal or falling for drugs. 1234 tells about a band that everyone knows. The band in which a cousin used to play and that still rehearses in the basement of the church and thinks they'll make it some day. A band that has the same audience on every gig and whose demo is constantly almost ready. The band with the sympathetic members.
1234 is a sympathetic little fiction made in the spirit of Once and High Fidelity. The film tells about Stevie who is tired of the shiftlessness of his life and his bands which never seem to go anywhere. He gets new energy in his life when the very skilled guitarist Billy and bassist Emily join his band. However, torn between love, rock and his two jobs Stevie loses track of what he really wants - is music the most important thing in his life after all? GIles Borg's film is a humane depiction about a familiar theme to every musician: the conflict between the childhood dream and growing up. This feel-good film is warm, touching and very realistic.
