It Might Get Loud

David Guggenheim:
It Might Get Loud (USA, 2008)
97 min. - English

It Might Get Loud is one of the most considerable music documentaries made in the last few years. A lot has been put into this film's production, and it shows. The beautiful shots and the spectacular soundtrack should be enjoyed in the quality surroundings of a film theatre. It is not often that documentaries about musicians are portrayed as intimately and captivatingly as Davis Guggenheim does in It Might Get Loud. This film had its Finnish premiere in Oulu Music Video Festival in August.

Although in the surface It Might Get Loud is a film about guitarists and guitar playing, it manages to gain something more. In their reminiscings and discussions together The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White reveal their childhood dreams about becoming a rock star and the reasons why they grabbed the guitar fot the first time. It Might Get Loud reveals how a furniture upholsterer from Detroit, a painter from London and a school boy from Dublin fell for music and created their own sound that raised them into super stardom. The inspiring film suits for everyone. As the film ends in a mutual jamming session of the three stars, the viewers don't have to be guitarists to understand the unique vibrations of the situation. It Might Get Loud is a wonderful film about playing and creativity.
