Opening film: the story of the best rock band in the world

Music and film lovers alike cheered when the news was out: cult director Jim Jarmusch directs a film about The Stooges! After a lot of waiting, the film premiered in Cannes, after which it has toured around selected festivals. Now it is Rokumentti’s turn.

Why is Gimme Danger a film that created an immense hype immediately? Well, let us tell you. The Stooges is the best rock band in the world, whose influence in the development of rock music has been enormous. Iggy Pop is the only living rock god. This is punk’s 40th anniversary year and there are few artists who have influenced in punk as much as Iggy and The Stooges. And last, but not least, the director of Gimme Danger is the legendary, original Jim Jarmusch. It goes without saying that this is the music film spectacle of the year.

Jarmusch and Iggy Pop are close friends, and Jarmusch has had a vast archive at his use when making the film – and this can be seen in the end product. Jarmusch tells the story of The Stooges from the start’s Ann Arbor times to the drug-infused years in the Detroit scene, when the band got their dangerous reputation, all the way to Iggy’s solo career and the comeback of 2003.

If you don’t know The Stooges before this, it is about time to get to know them. And if you do, you know you have to see this!
