Voïvod: We Are Connected traces the first 40 years of career of the famous and innovative metal band Voïvod. Through numerous testimonies and archival documents we follow the impressive journey of this extraordinary band.
Founded in 1982 in northern Quebec, French-speaking Canada, Voïvod has always been a stranger in the metal world. Drawing on a new wave of British heavy metal, hardcore and progressive music, the band attracted attention with their quirky sound and post-apocalyptic sci-fi aesthetic. Their obsessively original work lifted the band from underground to touring with the likes of Iron Maiden, Rush, and Metallica. In just over 40 years, there have been plenty of ups and downs, but the journey continues, and the vision is never compromised!
The makers of the documentary have had access to a huge amount of the band's own archival material. Other interviewees include metal greats Tobias Forge, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Tom G Warrior and Jason Newsted, who played in the band in the early 2000s.
