“Do you want to know what I really think?”

David Lynch: The Art Life is a journey to the origins of the genius artist’s complex and hallucinatory imagination that defies explanation. The film takes us back in time to Lynch’s childhood when his whole world would consist of one street, and sitting in a puddle of mud on a hot day was the best kind of entertainment. The film asks how the innocent boy playing in mud ended up spending a night at the morgue, or presenting his father rotten fruit, dead birds and mice wrapped in plastic down in the cellar. What makes a father tell his son that he should never, ever have children?

David Lynch is a living legend who has created a surreal art piece out of his life. The Art Life is a documentary where only Lynch himself gets to talk. While chain smoking, he sheds light on his life, dreams and beautiful, statically frightening art. The film takes an honest look at the powerhouse that is Lynch’s mind: where everyday life and the slow abstract horror molds into a synthetic limbo and a form of expression that can make your hair stand on end with a simple frame or a gentle look.

Do you want to know Lynch’s mind? Of course you do. But do you dare?
